I recently spoke with support about this idea (it’s the one reason I still use Robinhood when I’d prefer to switch to Fidelity)- Robinhood allows you do to daily, weekly, monthly, etc. automatic investments using dollar amounts/ fractional shares and Fidelity has the capacity to add that as well.

When I did it a few times at Fidelity, the fractional share would always have a larger spread than the whole share. For example, I purchased 1.5 shares of VTI, the 1 share would be more favorably priced than the 0.5 share. Not sure why. Other than that, the disadvantage would be more cost lots if that is something you care about.
