Some knobs or small hills, as seen in the above picture, make sure you can see the dog after they re-enter the water across points. Technical water is no good if you can't see the dog. Tom.

Geogre Hickcox also has a video called training the upland flushing retriever that is very good, and it doesn't deal with pointing labs just flushing dogs. I will say this training a dog to hunt upland may wreck the dogs blind running skills as too running straight lines.

Nov 9, 2020 · The pup should quickly learn to look where your gun is pointing and sit until sent, make him sit for quite a while. If he breaks put him back where he was and again make him wait to be sent. When the pup is sitting reliably to the shot and bumper try to find a field with some birds and make sure he sits to flush.
