Ok, it's kinda weird behavior for a weak battery, to start and die, and not start. And it started fine a couple weeks back at -20F. But I just bought a new one. Cranks, but won't start. I have owned my rav for a little over a year. It is a 2000 rav4, 4 door, awd, automatic, 150k miles. Last week I had a problem with the alternator. So I replaced it with one from a donor Rav I have. That seemed to take care of the problem. Ran fine with the battery disconnected.The immobilizer seems to be working, because the dashboard security light stops blinking and is no longer illuminated as soon as the key is placed into the ignition. Suddenly, it just didn't start so I checked the basic stuff: battery was good, I had good spark, had fuel, didn't find anything wrong. Only code was P1604, which I suppose came up after so many failed attempts to start the car.In general it starts fine. Engine turns over about 2 or 3 times and it is started. But a couple of times when it has been warm and only switched off for a short time it has been very hard to start. It turns over slowly and sounds as if the is going flat. Then when it starts it seems fine.Turn key to run- primes fuel pump for a few seconds. You should hear pump run at least near the gas tank. Turn key to start- PCM looks for good crank sensor signal then initiates spark/fuel.
