Researching my 38 S&W Victory Model. I've been trying to research a pistol but my results have been less than impressive. Would someone on the forum be willing to tell me where I can find basic information referencing the serial number on my revolver. Stamped under the barrel, on the cylinder, and on the frame under the grip is V 245.

After the fire, when most of the facility was rebuilt and most of the gunsmiths were replaced with machines, the new serial numbers started with the year of manufacture. This was in April 2013. Hi Dan. First, it is indeed a .32 Safety Hammerless Second Model. The spotting feature is the T-type barrel latch. The First Model did not have this feature. Second, while all First Model units did have only 5 digit serial numbers, some Second Models did as well. I purchased this 357 used in 1974. It is a model 14 but I cannot find a serial number on it. Did Dan Wesson ever produce any without one was I "had" at 19 years old. If it is real, what value would it have. It preforms very well. Thanks for any input.

Jim, I think your gun dates from 1979 or early 1980. Monson was made up until 1991 but the changed the serial number format in 1986.
