To me the standalone is better than the mod in a lot of aspects. The lack of any kind of updates to improve pvp is the only thing that's holding the standalone back from overtaking the mod. I don't know why Rust gets compared to DayZ so often. The original version of Rust was an Arma 2 DayZ mod knockoff. When DayZ mod was the hottness a bunch of people tried really hard to get their own zombie survival game going-- seemed like there was a new game out every month. Maybe just rowboats. Unfortunately Chernarus isn't Vietnam so after the ocean moving by boat doesn't really get you anywhere. Oh, there will be boats.. they'll just sail boats where you'll have to find sails and sheets that aren't ruined. And you'll have to search every dilapidated West Marine for shackles or a rudder. However the best thing about dayZ is that there is a server for everyone depending on how you want to enjoy the game.
