The thing about dual wield is, the off hand weapon will always do a normal attack, even if you use a skill like sword dance, and your off hand attack stat is halved (except for Erik late game). That one attack from the off hand isn't enough to outdamage greatswords. There's no real penalty for switching weapons during battle, so I'd recommend not worrying about what weapon type is "best." Rather, I'd recommend using them all and switching them around when appropriate. For instance, Boomerangs on Erik aren't very good for boss battles but they're great for groups of enemies.
