I like my 609 Silver's quite a bit, but you do have to use thema little differently than a 57 or an MD409. I have found that I have to put it further towards the outside of the speaker cone than I would other mic's. The 609 is still my go-to mic for live use though. As for the difference...

But the 468 was by far the fullest, hottest sounding, and most accurate sounding mic of the three. I'll do some experimenting with mic placement just to see if I can even out the results somewhat. Apr 28, 2014. #9. I own both the e906 and shure 57 mic (and have used the e609). The 57 is a great mic (and indestructible) but a little bit finickier with placement. You have to move it around to "EQ" the sound. The e906 has a wider "sweet spot" and, to my ears, sounds a little "better" or more natural than the sm57.

Dec 4, 2011 · Sennheiser e609 by Loon. Sound Quality. Ease of use. Features. Bang for buck. Overall: Though it is difficult to beat an SM57, Sennheiser really fell flat with this mic. Sennheiser's e609 is in the same price range as an SM57 and yet, in my opinion, there is a huge gap in sound. A SM57 sounds clearer, fuller, and much more detailed.
The original e609 was part of Sennheiser's "Evolution" line and was introduced in 1997, at about 1/2 the cost of where the MD409 had been ($269 retail vs. $450 for the 409 at the very end) but was never terribly successful due mainly to the very different sound.
