Tractors were rated and sold by the terms "2 plow", "3 plow", etc. An H is a "2 plow" and an M is "3 plow". JD B was 2 plow, A was 3 plow, G actually a "3.3" plow. The US made wide front ax. The Britlish Farmall BM used a redesigned wide front axle which appears to be stronger and only came with the extended wheel base. For the Super H, First 2 5/8, Second 3 3/4, Third 5, Fourth 6 5/8, Fifth 16 1/4 and Reverse 3 1/4. It also mentions about a 2-4 HP difference between Gas and Dist. (Less power with Dist.) which might account for a slight speed difference in gears between tractors. I own a 1940 H and a 1951 H and they both run at the same speeds in the same gears.

The early 400's and the late Super M's were same but later 400's used dipsticks and had a smaller 1 inch diamiter wist pin just like the 450's, and the H and early (I'm thinking) Super H are similar but later Super H's and 300's, and 350's are different. The M's engine unlike the H can be made into a 450.
