The stock carburetors on a predator 212 or Honda GX160 or any other smaller engines are designed for the stock engine which has a governor to limit the rpm to around 3600. If you remove the governor or make other adjustments to increase rpm then you will need to get a Mikuni or a Mikuni clone carburetor to get more power out of the engine. Since rpm is relative to speed, if the setup makes use of the same tires and gearing, the mini-bike or Go-kart will be 1.5x faster than before.The governor hole is 1/4" and if you remove the oil sensor while you're in there it's 7/16". Tap them if possible, use fine thread bolts and red loctite. If you do the oil sensor too you'll need to cut the bolt because you won't be able to find one short 😜 enough. Just look at how deep the hole is and eyeball it.Stock Predator engines (all of them) top out at ~3600 RPMs. Removing the governor on a 212 will allow it to rev till it hits valve float which is ~5500 RPMs. That is a huge difference! It is the single best upgrade you can do to a go kart. If you update the carb and exhaust you will be able to hit your max RPM faster.

The 301 has 15 lbs vs a 212 at 8 lbs. So while gearing will determine highest speed theoretically, you'll need enough torque to get you there. I would think, and I'm no expert, the total weight is also a factor. A normal yard kart size with a normal payload the 212 should work.Vp race gas will be fine. The number one thing to do to any engine is to use good oil, get a better exhaust and intake. You can also do things like shave the head to increase compression but you'd have to take it apart. If I may make a suggestion, if you want to go faster, just use the 212cc.
