To be on the safe side always disconnect the negative battery ground, if you are going to be working on electrical things. I disconnect the cable from the negative side at where it connects to the frame as it is a lot easier then taking it off the battery. When turning the steering wheel, the steering will lock up and then move and then lock up again, over and over. When raising the loader, the same thing happens. The loader is real jerky when raising.

I have a 2003 John Deere 5520 cab tractor and the fuel gauge always read very accurately. I parked it on a fairly steep hill facing uphill. Unfortunately, there was a pinhole in the fuel line and air got in the line. I repaired the fuel line and bled the air.

I have seen a fuel tank lose its ground to the frame. i was a truck mechanic for quite a few years. Senders fail, wiring fails, the ground path fails, but the dash gauge VERY VERY seldom fails.
Shut off the tractor. If the three point still seeps down then you probably have a bad lift piston oring because, by closing the lock out valve, you have eliminated the valve & everything else in the system.
