Jan 20, 2019 · This is my first Kimber and for the $ it’s a good buy. Fit and finish are good and I actually like the front sight on this GFO model. I shot some 200gr hard cast from Underwood and some 200xtp underwood with 0 issues. The Dan Wesson has the best fit, finish, and accuracy. The Kimber Super Carry Custom with the alloy frame and round butt gets carried most often. The Kimber Stainless Target II is my favorite 10mm. The S&W is my barbeque gun. I bought a Kimber Custom recently. It's a full length 9mm. I've put roughly 50 to 100 rounds of Winchester white box through it and I've experienced multiple failures to extract the spent casing. The malfunctions require the removal of the magazine to be cleared as the gun attempts to feed the next round in behind the unextracted casing.The Kimber Custom LW Shadow Ghost is relatively easy to clean. Takedown is standard for a 1911 with a full-length guide rod. Detailed instructions on disassembly, lubrication, and reassembly are easy to follow per the manual. At one time I thought Kimber was the top of the food chain, I really did have pride of ownership with them!If the Nephew in question is going for capacity, I'd go with the G20 (or maybe the new FN 510) over the M&P 10mm (too lightweight) or the X-Ten (only reliable as a 14+1). If he wants the smoothest shooting, I'd go with a Dan Wessen, Colt, or Kimber 1911 (Springfield and SIG aren't too bad). My personal vote would be a P220 Legion or a 610 ...CUSTOM TLE II.
