They simply classify the 20W-50 for V-twin because the Harley V-twins don't have radiators. As it says optimized for hot-running, air cooled engines... your X has the ability to keep itself much cooler than an air-cooled ...

When you finally get it off now you know don't tighten it more than you can do by hand. Next change you should be able to remove by hand but many do prefer hot oil changes. Our bikes are designed to work with coolant. The specific type of coolant is to keep the coolant passages clear and minimize damage to the the coolant passage surfaces. 2009 VTX1300R.Beyond these two recommendations, you get into personal opinions. My personal opinion is to use full synthetic Amsoil 10W-40 motorcycle oil. for coolant, I generally used a generic/house brand from Meijers that is silicate free or another low cost brand. limmoman. Aside from grounding problems on the 2002 which cause a lot of problems (check recall info for information on that), the starter switch can cause a host of problems including not starting. If that is the case, the switch can be disassembled and cleaned. Just changing the oil is pretty straight forward. Pull the front wheel. Loosen the top fork plugs. Loosen the triple clamp bolts. Pull the fork legs out (one at the time). Mark them left and right. Pull the top fork plugs off. Drain the oil. Flush 3 times with AFT - drain well between flushes - especially the last one.

I use the Valvoline 4T 10-40 full synthetic in my 2007 1300s. I have been a Valvoline oil fan for over 40 years in my cars. For the bikes I've tried Honda branded oil, Castrol, etc. and wasn't happy with the engine sounds after 2K miles.
