Jake brake not working on high.
The first thing that comes to mind is an intermitant problem with your clutch switch. I have seen this before. It the clutch switch or wiring is faulty the engine ECU may think you are pushing in the clutch and in turn will not allow the Jakes to work. Next is the accelerator pedal may not be going all the way back to idle.
Jake brake uses engine compression for braking. So if not in gear it does nothing (except maybe kill the engine) and how effective it is depends upon which gear you are in. So in neutral it does nothing. So if you've accidentally engaged Georgia Overdrive on a steep decline, better hope for a runout lane :)My 4cyl jakes act like they don't turn off when you hit the accelerator, clutch or even turn the switch off. The performance of a jake is second to none. The brake power of an exhaust brake is not even close to that of jake brake. The exhaust brake just blocks the flow of the exhaust. A jake will open and close the valves on the engine heads at different times to make the engine take power instead of make power.
