it has a dry sump system, which pumps the oil into the tank. then back to the oil pump for lubrication of the engine. some engines let the tank drain back into the crankcase fast. then when you check the tank it's empty, but the oil is in the engine. so you add to the tank and run it, it fills the tank which is overfilled now.
Hi everyone, my first posting so here goes. What type of oil should I be using in my DRZ400s a 2002 model. It has only done 2000 miles and never seen the dirt (soon change that). I did an oilchange today and have used Putoline Sport 4, a semi-synthetic oil.But I was thinking that I maybe should have used a Fully Synthetic.

04-KFX400. The only accurate way to check the oil is to start the engine and let it idle for 3 minutes then let it sit off for 3 minutes. If it sits more than 3 minutes oil will settle into the case and it will read low. Any other procedure will give you an inaccurate reading. 2 1/2 quarts is way too much.
