There is a flat spring placed above the chamber. The screw that holds it can be seen on top of the receiver. That spring serves two purposes. 1) It keeps the firing pin from rising above the rim of the cartridge. 2) It keeps the cartridge aligned with the chamber for smooth chambering. I have a manual from a Model 15YN and a lot of the parts are identical. I am thinking that this firing pin spring is a standard part used in a lot of guns. IMO the hammer's not designed for that solid metal on metal impact which is coushined when the firing pin strikes the brass cartridge rim when live firing.
