A level 100 something Phiomia only filled it about 20%. All you need to do is kill your tame from a safe distance out of aggro range and drag it over to the carchar. Instead of trying to kill you, it will just smell the air like a dog, walk over to you, and take a chomp, where you do take a small amount of damage. I just get out of render distance and come back, sometimes they'll eat it but yea, Its not consistent it'll eat all the time. Make sure your trap isnt too tight in, so they have some space at least to freely walk.
