Getting one maxed for max mining/warp 40 capability to do your dailies/access the 40/60K nodes is critical in the mid game. The faction miners are much more for the longer game. As others have said, they have great base cargo for raiding, and at higher levels have much better warp range to get you into dark space for 4* materials.
