For me, I prefer strength armors first, so for me that's Dafari light (Ogrus Ironeater, B'naaru Heavyhands), and the Khitan DLC medium cold STR, and the Pict DLC heavy hot STR.

I'd say Medium armor is the best compromise because you get some of the mobility and some of the armor. Heavy armor is great if you really don't dodge much and just get punched in the jaw a lot though. I just don't like the stamina drain, inability to climb etc.
